sylvanworks 1 Discussion: Front Page Blog: Payout Schedule Changes Effective February 2nd

As mentioned in the middle of December, we'll be changing how and when we do payouts to provide more efficient and reliable service. Outlined below is the new schedule.

As of February 2nd the payout schedule will be as follows:
Paypal payment requests cut off every Monday at 9am MST and payments requested up to that cut off will be paid out on the following Monday.
Moneybookers payment requests cut off every Tuesday at 9am MST and payments requested up to that cut off will be paid out on the following Tuesday.
Payoneer payment requests cut off every Wednesday at 9am MST and payments requested up to that cut off will be paid out on the following Wednesday.

Please note that there may be a lag between when we payout the money and when the service provider deposits it into your account. We don't have any control over this.

If a state holiday falls on the payout request cut off day, then the whole schedule pushes forward one day. For example, if there is a holiday on Monday, then the Paypal request cut off would be Tuesday at 9am MST and the payment will be paid out on the following Tuesday. Moneybookers would then be Wednesday and Payoneer Thursday.

If you receive your payment by check, we will be doing a check run twice a month on the 15th and 30th (unless those days fall on a weekend, then the payment will be sent on the Friday before). You will need to request your payment 5 business days before these dates.

At the same time, we will be making the switch to allowing only one Payout request per week. The week will run from Sunday to Saturday with the clock resetting at Midnight MST on Sunday morning .

This change will now allow us to provide your payouts to you as per the schedule.

If you have any questions, please contact us at Contributor Relations and we'll be glad to help you out!

caspixel 2 Help: Do Buyers purchase the same image more than once?

I have in the past. I have used one image so much for one of my clients that I started feeling bad and downloaded the image again.

(That was when the prices were lower though.)

BTW the new 500D upcoming Rebel is rumored to have video too, wonder if the quality and compression will be on par with the 5D II. I guess we´ll know in a few weeks.

Side note: I'm getting psyhed up for the 60D, because my 20D needs to be replaced and Canon has basically said that the 60D will for sure have video, in as many words. We won't see that until August though.

I'm also hoping that Canon doesn't decide to cripple the video in their xxxD and xxD lines in order to create a selling point for the 5D and (inveitable) 1DsMarkIV with video. I can imagine things like no exposure lock, or 720p only imlimented in firmware just to keep the bucks flowing in for the higher priced cameras.

Anyway, I've got a question about the 5D! Has card speed turned out to be a problem for anyone? There was a thread about this earlier in which people were reccomending some pretty expensive high-end cards. What happens if you insert a card that's not fast enough? Does the camera have a RAM buffer big enough for a minute or so of video?

Oakland, yesterday.
The police and media helicopter(s) kept me up into the wee hours. Then again, first thing this morning.

Well, I'm glad the only thing you lost was sleep.

Thanks. Me, too.

SoopySue 15 Keywording: Keyword removal but its OK at Getty??

Chimney's not spam here. Just redundant. Ideally the two would be mapped together.

But since they're not, what's a photog. to do? Certainly a BM search on 'smoke stack' and 'chimney' doesn't bring up the same images. Are you saying 'we' should second guess which term a buyer might use? I've never heard of the term 'smoke stack' [1] though of course it was obvious what it meant. But if 'smoke stack' is more appropriate for this image (seems to be some doubt whether is is smoke, steam, smog or fumes, whereas I'd say it's smoke or water vapour - definitely not 'smog') fair enough. Or if 'smoke stack' is more likely to be used in the States (I wouldn't know). Are 'smoke stack' and 'chimney' translated into the other iStock languages differently?

[1] ETA, that's not true. I just remembered John Masefield (how could I forget?:

Dirty British coaster with a salt-caked smoke stack,
Butting through the Channel in the mad March days,

..........
Whoops!

AndrewJohnson 16 Photography: So anyone shooting the D3X?

Has anyone considered spending just a little bit more money and going with a medium format over a D3X?

Got the HD3-50 but thats mainly for studio work, can ofcourse carry it around but its cumbersome and pretty slow in comparison. Using it for studio comissioned work.

the whole idea behind the D3X, at least as far as Im concerned is to bring MF quality out on location in a smaller and light package.

Isn't the H3D a whole lot more expensive? What about something like the Mamiya 645ZD which is in the same price ballpark as the D3X? I have no idea what the consensus is on that camera, but it's sensor is twice the size of that in the D3X.

The Medium format cameras I was looking at were not that much more money either. I do understand that the portability factor weighs high on the D3X vs. Medium format. I was just curious!

HAHAHAHAHA, yes the MAC wheel is the bomb! ;-)

Rachel,

I do video on my MacBook and it works! My Mac Pro is of course bigger and faster but it really depends on your taste. If you are super mobile get a MacBook Pro but if you work at a desk the Mac Pro will give you more upgrade options for the future (adding internal drives, etc.)

sylvanworks 20 Software: What exactly is Adobe Lightroom?
Thanks Jo Ann. Fixed the typo too. I'm still in the process of adding titles and captions to all of those.

Lightroom is already up to 2.2, so it is much more stable than the beta. I'd give it another try. I also wrote a tutorial on how to speed it up.

I'm not a high volume shooter in that regard either, but since I started using Lightroom I've found that my entire photographic history is so much more accessible. I can't imagine life without it (and I was using Photoshop/Bridge/ACR prior).

One nice example of what you can do easily in Lightroom involves the graduated filter tool. With that one tool you can make all the following adjustments at once:

Here is a Before and After from one of my Alaska photos. Here's the full tutorial.

I'd actually suggest that you could go with Lightroom 2 and skip CS4 since you already have CS3. If you are a NAPP member you can get %15 off (either way).

All your suggestions have been duly noted. I like the idea of the hot shots being used to mix things up. However, I also like the idea of free ice cream every day at about 2pm. Regardless, I'm poking people in the arm over here to consider some alternatives.
